STEP assembly - break up into indivdual bodies

Hi,

I have a very large STEP assembly of about 900 MB which crashes in a translator I support . I would like to parse the STEP file and break it up into individual bodies. I want to do this so that I can work out which individual body causes the crash. Does anyone know of such a tool? It would surely just be a scripting and I would be surprised if it didn't exist.
